When we left the Grand Canyon we realized that it was too late to make it all the way to Sedona so we crossed highway 40 at the junction and ended up in a little town called Williams. Very good unplanned part of our trip. We felt like we had been transported back in time to the 50s and 60s. The downtown area has recreated the atmosphere from that time with restaurants and stores featuring product and furnishings from that era, the local car buffs cruise down the street in their restored vehicles and the music is in sync with the times. Staff dress in the fashion from then and even the hairstyles on some are ducktails and greased. We saw James Dean in the restaurant we ate at, he was cooking burgers on the barbeque outside. It is so relaxed and fun, a real treat from the realities of today.
Remember the tv series Route 66?
The carnival was on and it was colorful and not very busy.
My favorite ride when I was in my teens.
The carnies were not doing much business.
This one had the most kids in it.
Past the bedtime of the little ones I guess.
Flashback !! Who necked in a car like this at the drive-in? Not me.
The local car club and their pride and joys.
