A Few More from the West Coast

Be sure to click on the pictures to get better views of them and for some reason not all the pictures are being shown on this posting so click on the Read More to see them all. Growing Pains!!!!!
I snapped this one of Mount Baker from the ferry on the way back from the west coast. It seems no matter where you are out there, there is a fantastic view of this mountain and it always looks huge.

While we were waiting for our daughter to finish work, we drove down to a spit where there's lots of parking to just chill out and watch the boats go by. Little did we know that we were in for the thrill of our life and a rare event (to see them from land). All the whale watching boats showed up directly in front of us about 200 yards out. This is a pod of about 20 killer whales and they spent a lot of time in this spot feeding  and giving the people on the boats and us the show of a lifetime. I've a good telephoto but it's super hard to focus so was lucky to get this shot. We watched them for ages as they made their way all along the southern tip of the island and for a brief moment one of the big ones actually breached!

While the whales were chomping away on what we presume were salmon, this fellow climbed out on the rocks below us. Seals are another favorite food of the killers so guess he figured it was time to do some suntanning. However, as you see he immediately noticed my camera, (what is it with that???) and slipped back into the water. Sorry for the quality of these pictures but it was an overcast, foggy day and I haven't learned how to adjust for that, especially when I'm rushing just to get the shot.

Bye, bye Victoria, see you next year.
